The Latest On Ken Ekanem

Centreville (Clifton, VA) defensive end Ken Ekanem , recently named Virginia Preps AAA Defensive Player of the Year in 2011, is one of the top uncommitted high school seniors in the state of Virginia. Unless more schools jump into the picture in the coming weeks, the 6’3″, 245-pound prospect’s list has focused to three schools: Notre Dame, Oregon and Virginia Tech.

So far, Ekanem has scheduled official visits with Virginia Tech (weekend of Jan. 20) and Notre Dame (weekend of Jan. 27).

“Oregon is still in the mix. He hasn’t had as much contact with them as he has with Notre Dame and Virginia Tech,” said head coach Chris Haddock, who guided the Wildcats to a region championship and an appearance in the Division 6 state championship game. “I don’t think UNC is in the hunt anymore. I think he is still waiting to find out how good he feels as far as taking a visit out to Oregon. He had scheduled Notre Dame for the weekend after he got hurt, but they rescheduled thinking that wasn’t the best time for him.”

The timing of more official visits could impact when Ekanem makes his college decision. Nothing is definitive, but he may wait past Signing Day.
