Report From The Chesapeake Bowl

Five Virginia Tech recruits, including four on the South (players from DC, MD, VA, WV) and one on the North (players from DE, NJ, PA), played in the 2011 Chesapeake Bowl, which took place in Edgewater (MD) on December 30. The event was an opportunity for these players to compete against a high level of competition, and also to get to know each other before arriving in Blacksburg next fall.

Tech’s South squad recruits included quarterback Brenden Motley (Christiansburg (VA)), defensive lineman Nigel Williams (Benedictine (Richmond, VA)), linebacker Devin Vandyke (South County (Lorton, VA)) and defensive back Donovan Riley (Poly Prep (Baltimore, MD)). Fellow Tech-bound prospect Jack Willenbrock scored the bragging rights, though, as he and the rest of the North squad captured the 28-17 win.

Notes on Tech’s Prospects

– Riley and Vandyke were the only Tech-bound starters in the game, with Riley starting at safety and Vandyke at one of the outside linebacker positions.
