Virginia Tech played an outstanding football game against Georgia Tech last
Thursday night. Today, Raleigh Hokie tells us some of the reasons why the Hokies
played so well.

1) How did the personnel changes on defense contribute to the defensive
performance?

The personnel decisions worked out extremely well. The decision to move JR
Collins inside couldn’t have gone better. His quickness, toughness and tenacity
inside created problems for GT’s inside blocking schemes and led them to carry
more plays to the perimeter. Tyrel Wilson was just as impressive at DE. He was
particularly noticeable down the stretch, using his speed to chase down plays
from the backside. Overall, that down four of Wilson, Collins, Hopkins and Gayle
was a difficult match-up for GT’s offensive line.
