It has been exactly one week since Rustburg (VA) forward Marshall Wood gave a verbal commitment to the Virginia Tech men’s basketball program. The excitement he felt last Tuesday has yet to wear off.

“I’m still feeling really great,” said the 6’8″, 210-pound senior. “Virginia Tech is the best place for me to go. I feel at home there.”

Deliberate in his decision-making process, Wood decided he would narrow his choices to three before the fall. He would then take official visits to all three schools, which turned out to be the University of Richmond, VCU and Virginia Tech. What separated the Hokies?

“The family environment,” Wood answered. “The people in Blacksburg are so passionate about Virginia Tech. The atmosphere is impressive. Tech fans are in tune with the games. Tech is a great institution academically, which is important to my parents as well as me. They have a good academic system. The coaching staff, I think they will be able to develop my growth as a person and a man.”
