St. Benedict’s (N.J.) senior guard Melvin Johnson has narrowed his list to four schools – College of Charleston, Miami, South Florida and Virginia Tech. The 6’3″, 188-pound guard was in Blacksburg this past weekend for an official visit, the first of possibly four official visits the standout prospect may make before deciding his college future.

Forward Montrezl Harrell is currently Tech’s only commitment in the 2012 class, but the Hokies are looking to add more. Johnson is one of those targets.

“It was great. I loved it,” Johnson said when asked for his overall impressions of the experience at Virginia Tech. He was accompanied by his mother on this trip but plans to go solo on the remaining visits. “It’s a big campus with a family environment.

“It was real fun, especially the football game.”
