Multiple internet reports are indicating that Calhoun County (SC) wide receiver Mark Irick has given his verbal pledge to Virginia Tech. He is Tech’s 20th commitment of the 2012 recruiting class.

Irick chose Virginia Tech over offers from Kentucky and Georgia Tech. He caught 38 passes for 810 yards and 10 touchdowns last season. At 6-3, 185, Irick is a possession receiver who wants to study engineering in college. He is considering enrolling early in January of 2012.

“It was a school that I felt I can go to and be better as a person and an athlete,” Irick told The Times and Democrat. “It’s a fit. They say, first of all, I need to come in and work hard to get faster and stronger. That is my plan, to get faster and stronger. Maybe, I will enroll in January instead of going in August.”

Mike O’Cain was the lead recruiter for Irick, who visited Blacksburg last week for the first time and loved his trip.
