Offer Profile: Benedictine DL Nigel Williams

A first-team all-state selection in 2009, Nigel Williams took to the camp circuit last summer, coming away with a “gained sense of the competition,” he said, as well as new techniques to take into 2010. The 6-3, 250-pound defensive lineman/tight end would enjoy a productive junior season, racking up 17.5 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks and hauling in 15 receptions for 236 yards and four scores.

In 2010, “I had a better sense of the opposition and the role I was playing on both sides of the ball,” said Williams, who primarily played defensive end and tight end but also saw action at defensive tackle this past season for the Cadets. “I was more comfortable with my body. I was more elusive. I had put in a lot more work over last summer, and that helped me.”

A multi-sport athlete at Benedictine, Williams played for Sean McAloon’s varsity basketball squad this season. Since hoops season concluded, though, he has turned his attention back to the gridiron.

“I’m already faster than I was. I’m already back up to the weight I was at last year, maybe a little bit more,” Williams said. “I keep pushing it five days a week, an hour-and-a-half to two hours per day.”
