Recruiting Diary: CJ Prosise

Woodberry Forest (VA) junior C.J. Prosise is the subject of a new recruiting feature, the Recruiting Diary. We’ll go in-depth with the 6-2, 190-pound safety/wide receiver prospect on a regular basis, getting the latest in terms of contact from coaches, offers, visits, and anything else that may arise over the course of his recruiting process. Prosise is becoming one of the state’s top “athlete” recruits, boasting four scholarship offers with one more likely on the way soon.

To begin, we check in with Woodberry Forest head coach Clint Alexander, one of the more proactive high school coaches when it comes to recruiting. As he does with all of his prospects, he sent out an initial e-mail on CJ to college coaches. Athletic information such as statistics and the 4.59-second 40 time CJ posted at Duke’s camp last summer, contact information, and the highlight film link were included in the e-mail, which was sent out to 150 different schools and a couple of recruiting services.

Spring practice, something Woodberry has the luxury of having (state of Virginia public schools cannot do spring football), helps as well. It did with Prosise, who sparked some college interest – including from UVa, which would eventually be the first to offer — last spring.

“A lot of coaches tell me how important it is to have a chance to see them in person,” Alexander said.
