One week after making an unofficial visit to Virginia Tech, 4-star junior forward Montrezl Harrell has verbally committed to the Hokies. The 6-7, 220-pound North Edgecombe (Tarboro, N.C.) standout is head coach Seth Greenberg’s first commitment of the 2012 class.

“I committed earlier tonight,” said Harrell, who pledged to the Hokies over offers from Clemson, Miami, South Carolina and Wake Forest, among others.

Harrell and his mother were in attendance for Virginia Tech’s win over Duke on February 26. It was a full day visit that also included a tour of the campus, talking to coaches including Greenberg and primary recruiter John Richardson, and learning more about Tech’s academics. Harrell left impressed with the atmosphere, the coaches, the role he’s being recruited to play and the academics (he wants to major in Sports Medicine).

More than anything, though, Harrell just felt better about Virginia Tech than any other school.
