Q&A: Demitri Knowles Set To Realize Goal

Liberty Christian Academy (Lynchburg, VA) wide receiver Demitri Knowles will sign a letter of intent tomorrow, officially realizing a goal he set for himself back in his early teenage years. The Virginia Tech-bound senior, the subject of this latest “Q&A” feature, took some time to discuss what Signing Day will mean to him, how he got to this point, Bryan Stinespring’s role in his recruitment, and more.

Knowles, whose first year on the LCA varsity level was his junior year, enjoyed a terrific senior season in 2010, hauling in 25 receptions (doubling his junior year effort) for 338 yards and six touchdowns. Virginia Tech offered in the fall and would eventually be the pick for the 6-1, 175-pound speedster, who also had offers from Virginia and Connecticut. LCA head coach Frank Rocco had the following to say about his big-play receiver’s development last year.

“In terms of running the speed routes — what we call a take-off route, or running an 18-yard dig route — there was none better in that regard,” Rocco said. “He is still learning how to convert routes, to settle down in windows and things like that. Only time will determine how he develops. He got much better this year than last year. That’s going to be a process, but there is always a spot on the receiving corps for a guy who can go out and outrun everybody. There is always a role for a player like that.”

The 2010 VIS state champion in the 55 meters, 300 meters and long jump, Knowles will also run track at Virginia Tech. Specifically, he’ll do the 100 meters and 200 meters, events in which he has posted personal bests of 10.6 seconds and 21.45 seconds on the high school level.
