Asante Recalls First Visit As A VT Commit

Mallard Creek (Charlotte, N.C.) saw its fantastic 2010 season come to an end last Friday night, when Vance defeated the Mavericks in the Class 4AA regional semifinals. The next day, wide receiver Kevin Asante was in Blacksburg for the first time since becoming part of Virginia Tech’s 2011 class. For Asante, who was in on an official visit, the weekend was a positive following Friday night’s disappointment.

“It was wonderful. I really enjoyed myself,” Asante said of the official visit to Tech. He was accompanied by family as well as Mallard Creek’s wide receivers coach. Mavericks teammate and good friend, quarterback Marquise Williams, was in Blacksburg as well over the weekend.

Recapping Saturday, Asante said, “I had breakfast and then went and talked some academics. They showed me around the campus and then I watched the game. The fans are crazy. It was so packed. I love the fans. I saw a lot of die-hard Virginia Tech fans. They were giving me respect, saying welcome to Virginia Tech. The atmosphere was great. After the game, I went to dinner, hung out with players and went back to my hotel.”

The comfort level felt with the players was a pleasant surprise for the Charlotte native.
