A day after Virginia Tech’s big win over conference rival Georgia Tech, future Hokies offensive lineman Jake Goins will lead the Manchester Lancers (Midlothian, VA) against Dominion district foe L.C. Bird, in what is without question the biggest game of the season. With a win tonight, Goins and company would be in position for a Dominion district title and a playoff berth.

“One day after practice this week, I told the team that this is our one chance to get in the playoffs,” said Goins. “We’ve never beaten Bird. We’ve never been to the playoffs. We can do both if we win this week. We’re going to have to be focused. We’re going to have to bring our A game.”

Manchester heads into tonight’s contest with a 6-2 overall record, 5-1 in the district. The only district loss was at the hands of Clover Hill, which boasts top junior prospect Joel Caleb. The two losses have come by a total of six points.

“The two games we did lose, we lost by a slim margin,” Goins said. “I’m not happy, but I’m satisfied with our performance. I do wish we could’ve stepped it up and gotten those wins.”
