Five weeks after losing their first two games and falling out of both polls, Virginia Tech has re-entered both the AP and USA Today Coaches’ Polls at #23. The Hokies are one of three ranked ACC teams.
Since opening with losses to Boise State and JMU and plummeting out of both polls, the Hokies have won five games in a row and have scored over 40 points four times. After smashing Wake Forest 52-21 Saturday, the Hokies moved to 5-2, including 3-0 in the ACC and in sole possession of first in the ACC Coastal Division.
The pollsters rewarded the Hokies by ranking them #23 in both polls released today. Florida State (6-1, 4-0 ACC) is the highest-ranked ACC team at #16 in the AP Poll and #17 in the USA Today Coaches’ Poll. Miami checks into both polls at #25.
Oregon is the new #1 in both polls, and Boise State is now ranked #2 in both polls and has picked up first-place votes.
The initial BCS rankings are due to be released later tonight.
