VT’s The Pick For Finney-Smith

Head men’s basketball coach Seth Greenberg has secured one the most highly rated recruits of his Virginia Tech tenure. At a 1:00 p.m. press conference today, I.C. Norcom (Portsmouth, VA) senior forward Dorian Finney-Smith , ranked among the top 40 recruits nationally by both Rivals.com and Scout.com, announced in front of family, Norcom basketball coach Leon Goolsby, AAU coach Boo Williams, teammates, teachers and fellow students that he will attend Virginia Tech.

He opened the press conference by thanking numerous people, including Norcom’s administrators and coaches, and the head coaches at each of the three finalists (Florida, Old Dominion and Virginia Tech). Finney-Smith then said, “My college choice was very difficult. I choose this college because I believe it will help me become the man, the scholar and the athlete I desire to be. Academics are very important to me and my family. This college will allow me to be very successful in life and on the basketball court. This college will guide me to my life and my dream.

“Therefore today I announce the college choice I will be attending in the fall of 2011.”

A Virginia Tech hat, a Florida hat and an ODU hat lay in front, but at this point Finney-Smith reached for the maroon and orange, revealing his college choice to a cheering crowd. He called Virginia Tech a “good match” and announced a goal of helping the Hokies win a championship before ending with the following line:
