Virginia Tech’s Kevin Sherman was one of four coaches to call Anson (Wadesboro, N.C.) linebacker Stephone Anthony on September 1, which was the first day college coaches can call senior recruits. What did Sherman say to one of Tech’s top remaining targets?

“We just got on the phone and talked about football. He talked about how much of a need they have at linebacker and how I fit their scheme and things like that,” recalled the 6-3, 220-pound linebacker prospect.

Coaches from Clemson, Florida and North Carolina called as well. The primary theme from all was pretty much the same.

“Each guy told me about the opportunity I’d have at their school,” Anthony said.
