Bud Foster has been working hard to develop depth at his inside linebacker
positions. So far this August, the starters are looking very good and the
backups are showing promise. This group as a whole is young, but talented.
Despite their youth, this group should play well, and the depth will improve
once Barquell Rivers comes back from injury.
For the first time since 2003, Virginia Tech’s linebacker play was average
for the first half of last season. Once Lyndell Gibson (5-11, 232, r-So.) was
inserted into the starting lineup, the position seemed to stabilize.
