Preseason Report: TE Christian Reeves

Eagles Landing Christian Academy (McDonough, GA) head coach Jonathan Gess gave Christian Reeves a chance to play offense last season, starting the 6-3, 220-pound standout at wide receiver. The move paid off with Reeves hauling in 26 receptions for 584 yards and four scores. If this past offseason is any indication, however, last season may have only been a glimpse into the potential the Virginia Tech-bound rising senior has on the offensive side of the ball.

“Christian has actually been tearing it up this summer and in preseason practice,” Coach Gess wrote via e-mail. “He has been easily the best wide receiver at every 7-on-7 tournament we have played in. We actually got lucky enough to have [standout rising senior defensive back] Avery Walls transfer in. It has really helped Christian in practice to have a guy like that to go up against daily. It has just made him that much better.”

From the National Underclassmen Combine – Reeves earned MVP honors at the Ultimate 100 Southeast Combine in Atlanta and has been selected to play in the NUC All-Star game this winter – to college camps such as Virginia Tech, Reeves has put his impressive athletic ability on display. At Virginia Tech, he ran the 40 in the 4.5s, performed well in one-on-ones and left with an offer.

“It was a very successful offseason,” Reeves said. “I got a lot faster and a lot stronger. As an athlete, overall I’m a lot more dominant. I can do things this year I wasn’t able to do last year. I feel like I’m twice the player I was. This offseason helped me a lot. I expect to have by far my best season. As for the team overall, I expect us to compete in the state championship.”
