Cave Spring Star Discusses Decision

Michael Cole announced tonight that Virginia Tech is where he will spend his college career. The decision ultimately came down to Tech and Penn State with the Hokies emerging as the pick one week ago.

“I let the Virginia Tech coaches know about a week ago,” said Cole, a 6-2, 200-pound linebacker/safety prospect out of Cave Spring High School (Roanoke, VA). “I called Coach Stinespring and he was very excited. I did ask him to keep it confidential since I was announcing this week, so I’ll give him a call this week to talk again. Coach Beamer was great. They were just very excited and I think they have a lot of plans for me.”

The decision was one that ultimately came down to a feeling.

“I went up to camp at Penn State several weeks ago and had a great visit. I have a good relationship with all their coaches. Driving back from that visit, I thought Penn State might’ve been the place, but I still had a couple of questions about Tech,” Cole said. “I wanted to make an educated decision and even it out. I had a couple of questions academically. I went back there and they addressed those. I came back home and just relaxed and looked at my options. I think at that point it was really just a gut feeling and what was deep down. And I’m really happy with my decision.
