Travis Hughes Talks Latest Visit

Kempsville (Virginia Beach, VA) star Travis Hughes is making several visits before the start of preseason practice. He began with a trip to Virginia Tech this past Saturday, will continue with a visit to UVa on Friday and likely will end with a visit to Clemson on August 14. This run of visits comes after a trip to UNC in June.

The 6-1, 215-pound linebacker prospect reflected on this past weekend’s experience at Virginia Tech, which was hosting its second one-day camp of 2010. He made the visit with his mother, who was making her first college visit with her son.

“I was kind of late to the camp. Everybody was running 40s when I got there,” said Hughes, who arrived mid-morning on Saturday. “I saw Coach Newsome. Coach Beamer was one of the first people to greet me. From there, a graduate assistant took me on a tour. We went to the academic building and I got to talk to some academic people. It was awesome in there. It was really nice. They are always there for tutoring if you need it and that’s what counts. After that, we toured the whole campus. Me and my mom got to see the Sociology place. The campus was actually really good. I heard it was big. It was big, but it wasn’t that bad to walk around. It was really nice. That’s what I wanted to get up there to see. Then, we came back to watch camp. After everything wrapped up, Coach Beamer took me into his office, Coach Newsome took me into his office and Coach Foster took me into his office. I talked to all three of them.”

Hughes elaborated further on his meeting with head coach Frank Beamer.
