Garland Finishes Career With Over 2,000 Points

Ty Garland played most of his varsity high school basketball career at point guard, the position he held as a freshman and sophomore and for part of his junior season. The 6-1, 165-pound senior, a Virginia Tech recruit, was a full-time 2 this season and played well, averaging about 25 points per game while leading Bartram to a 19-10 overall record and a Public AAAA league title. Garland produced no matter where he lined up in head coach James Brown’s backcourt, finishing his high school career with 2,198 points.

“He has to go down as one of the greatest players to play here,” said the Bartram (Philadelphia, PA) head coach.

Last November, head coach Seth Greenberg said the following of Garland:

“Tyrone is a typical Philly guard,” Greenberg said. “He has a great feel for the game. He can score and make plays for his teammates. He is terrific off the dribble and shoots the ball with range. He is extremely competitive and is a young, rising senior. He is the type of player we have been able to win with here at Virginia Tech.”
