Virginia Tech was not selected to participate in the 2010 NCAA Tournament. Instead, they’ll head to the NIT for the third straight year. Tech is a #1 seed in the NIT, and they’ll host #8 Quinnipiac on Wednesday night at 7pm in Cassell Coliseum.

Quinnipiac lost in the finals of the Northeast Conference Tournament, falling to Robert Morris 52-50. They went 23-9 on the season, and they were just three points shy of winning their conference and advancing to the NCAA Tournament.

Virginia Tech’s game with the Bobcats will not be televised. The Hokies are the only #1 seed in the NIT to not have their first round game televised.

If Tech makes it past Quinnipiac, they will face the winner of #4 UConn and #5 Northeastern. Second round games will take place on March 18, 19, 20 and 22. The Hokies won’t know the date of their second round game until after their opening game, if they defeat the Bobcats.

Virginia Tech finished the season 23-8 overall, and went 10-6 in the ACC before losing to Miami in the ACC Tournament. The Hokies if finished tied for third in the ACC, but did not make the field of 65. Wake Forest, Clemson and Georgia Tech, who the Hokies went 3-0 against this year and who all finished below VT in the ACC standings, advanced to the NCAA Tournament.

TSL will have a Quinnipiac game preview up on Tuesday.
