Hokies to Face Miami in Quarterfinals

Virginia Tech’s matchup in the quarterfinals of the ACC Tournament has been set. The Hokies will face the #12 seed Miami Hurricanes on Friday afternoon, and the winner will advance to the semifinals to face either #1 Duke or #9 UVA.

Miami is the fourth #12 seed in the last five years to upset the #5 seed in the opening round. The Canes knocked off Wake Forest 83-62, after taking a 41-27 lead into halftime. Miami’s tough 2-3 zone disrupted the Wake offense, and the Demon Deacons were never able to get anything going.

Virginia Tech and Miami split the regular season meetings, with Tech winning 81-66 in Blacksburg and the Canes picking up an 82-75 victory in Coral Gables. The Hokies have defeated Miami two years in a row in the ACC Tournament, beating them 63-49 in 2008 and 65-47 last year. They’ll look to make it three years in a row on Friday.

The game will begin following the Duke-Virginia game, which starts at noon. Look for tipoff to be somewhere between 2:15pm and 2:30pm. The game will be televised by Raycom and ESPN2.
