Bishop Kearney (Rochester, N.Y.) tight end/defensive end Jerome Lewis has turned in an excellent senior season. He racked up 19 tackles including four sacks in last week’s loss to Aquinas. Though the 6-4, 232-pound Lewis was held without a catch last week (for the first time since 2007), he has totaled 16 receptions for 380 yards and four scores in the four other games he has played this season. Kearney is now 5-1 on the year, still with hopes of a state championship.

“Everyone is saying that they don’t doubt why I earned those college scholarships,” said Lewis, who had eight receptions for 120 yards in one game this season.

Used in an H-back role at Kearney, Lewis will line up at tight end, wide receiver, and sometimes in the backfield. He has heard comparisons to former LSU and current San Diego Chargers player Jacob Hester, a versatile and productive player in his career with the Tigers. The Virginia Tech coaches project Lewis as an H-back as well.

“From what I’ve heard, they think it’ll be tough to match up with me,” Lewis said. “Especially with the 4.6 I run now in the 40. I’ve gotten bigger and faster this season. I hope to keep getting bigger and faster until college. With the vertical I have (ranging from 33 to 35 inches), I do think I could be a tough match-up.”
