Per hokiesports.com, Virginia Tech announced Thursday afternoon that redshirt freshman Ryan Williams will start at tailback for the Hokies in Saturday night’s Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game against Alabama in Atlanta. Tech also announced that fullback Kenny Jefferson is suspended for the game for violating team rules.
Williams is slated to start, but fellow tailbacks Josh Oglesby and David Wilson will also see significant playing time, according to running backs coach Billy Hite.
The Tech football staff will not comment further on Kenny Jefferson’s situation. Jefferson’s suspension means that redshirt junior Kenny Younger will be the primary fullback for the Hokies.
