Acree Out for Season, Will Remain at FUMA

Top 2010 class prospect Nick Acree entered his senior season with high expectations, looking forward to a season under Fork Union Military Academy (VA) prep head coach Micky Sullivan and playing alongside future Virginia Tech teammate Mark Shuman. Unfortunately for the massive 6-6, 310-pound defensive tackle/offensive lineman, a summer knee injury will keep him out for the entire season. The next time Acree takes the field, he’ll be a Virginia Tech Hokie.

“He was here in summer school, working on his academics,” Coach Sullivan said this morning. “They were up in the Estes Center playing one Friday or Saturday night and he twisted his knee. He went to the infirmary and iced it. His parents came and took him to Richmond. He found out he had a torn ACL.”

Acree is already on the road to recovery, Sullivan says.

“They did surgery two weeks ago, I think,” he said. “He is staying at home and rehabbing as long as he can before he needs to come here. Then he’ll come here and rehab here. He’ll work on his academics and go to Tech.”
