Top LB/S Williams Enjoys Tech Visit

An athletic and speedy linebacker/safety prospect, 6-2, 195-pound Travis Williams has become one of the most highly recruited players in the state of Virginia’s 2010 class. The Lake Taylor (Norfolk, VA) product boasts offers from North Carolina, N.C. State, Penn State and Virginia Tech, among others, and has received serious interest from other top programs.

“Recruiting is crazy,” said Williams, a second-team all-state selection last season as a junior. “I sent USC my highlight tape. Alabama came by. South Carolina came by.”

Williams has potential as a wide receiver but it appears college recruiters have him pegged for the defensive side of the ball, where he racked up 78 tackles with 14 sacks and 12 quarterback hurries last season as a junior. He played outside linebacker for the Titans.

“Most coaches are recruiting me for Sam linebacker. Penn State is recruiting me as a strong safety. They say I’ve got a chance to come in and start as a freshman because they’d only have one more guy back, so me and him would be able to compete.”
