Virginia Tech’s football program had the spotlight this weekend, but its men’s basketball program had a big weekend as well. Head coach Seth Greenberg and company hosted Hargrave Military Academy power forward DeShawn Painter , a 6-9, 210-pound prospect, on an official visit.

One of the top remaining prospects in the 2009 class, Painter is rated a 4-star prospect by Scout.com and a 3-star by Rivals.com. He opened up his recruitment this spring after previously signing with the University of Florida. Virginia Tech, a program Painter considered heavily before originally committing to Florida, had its opportunity to impress.

“I thought Virginia Tech was a good school… a real good school,” Painter said. “I knew that before, but I had only been on an unofficial visit. Virginia Tech is a great school. It was more city-like than I thought it was going to be. They have good people around. I’ve got family there. It was nice.”
