Tyler Barfield is another high quality student-athlete out of a high quality high school football program to accept a recruited walk-on spot at Virginia Tech. The 6-2, 290-pound offensive lineman, a standout at Westfield High School (Chantilly, VA), turned down an official scholarship offer from Northeastern in favor of walking on to Virginia Tech.
“I’ve grown up a Virginia Tech fan my entire life,” Barfield said. “My dad went there. I’ve always been a fan. My goal has always been to go to Virginia Tech.
“Tech is the perfect balance. It is close but not too close to home. It has a great football program, but it also has a great business school. It has everything I want.”
It appears doubtful that any offer Barfield could’ve received would’ve impacted his final decision.
