Newsome Decision Coming Today

One of Virginia Tech’s top targets – if not the top target – in the 2009 recruiting class will announce his decision later today. Kevin Newsome , a 6-3, 205-pound quarterback recruit out of Chesapeake, Virginia, plans to make his college decision known at 5:30 p.m. He will choose from Boston College, Penn State and Virginia Tech.

“He is announcing at Roger Brown’s restaurant in Portsmouth at about 5:30,” Newsome’s father, Kevin, told TechSideline.com last night. “Everybody will know where he is going.”

Newsome, who played his first three high school football seasons at Western Branch High School, played for Hargrave Military Academy’s postgraduate program this season despite being a true senior. He transferred to and is currently enrolled at Churchland High School, where he is working to finish up his high school work to be eligible to enroll in college next month.

“Due to early enrollment, he wants to get the decision out of the way,” Newsome’s father said. “He had wanted to announce it at the Army All-American game.”

Newsome has taken official visits to all three finalists. Though Boston College is listed, the decision is expected to be Penn State or Virginia Tech.
