Mackey Talks Recruiting, Season

6-5, 260-pound defensive end Leon Mackey turned in a big-time performance in Hargrave Military Academy’s 35-25 win last Friday, racking up four tackles-for-loss and 2.5 sacks. Mackey has led Hargrave’s postgraduate squad in sacks this season, establishing himself as a premier defensive end prospect and sparking the interest of college coaches from across the country.

Mackey signed a letter of intent with Virginia Tech in February of 2008, but because he did not qualify the letter is null and void. He decided to re-open his recruitment and has already taken one official visit this fall.

“I took a visit to Arkansas. LSU and [Virginia] Tech are visits I’ll be taking later this month,” Mackey said. “I go to LSU on the 21st and Tech on the 29th. Other than that, I might take some other visits but I might not. I’m not really sure yet.”

Mackey is also considering Clemson, North Carolina and Tennessee, but he may well end his recruitment after this month’s official visits. After all, he claims to have full qualified and plans on enrolling at his college destination in January of 2009.
