David Wilson Starting to Roll

Virginia Tech running back recruit David Wilson has certainly found his groove in this 2008 season. The George Washington (Danville, VA) star has rushed for a total of 602 yards and 10 touchdowns over the past two games, which, not coincidentally, have been GW-Danville victories.

“We have gotten better in the past few weeks,” said Wilson, whose team is 2-2 on the year following Monday night’s 44-36 win over Parkland (N.C.). Wilson rushed for 271 yards and four touchdowns in the win. “We have a young offensive line and I’m starting to learn how to run behind them. I’m missing last year’s line, but we are starting to get it together. I can’t wait to run behind Virginia Tech’s line (laughs) next year.

“I didn’t play well in our first game, but I played better and our line played better and got confidence from the first half against Amherst. We lost, but we played better and that gave us confidence. Against Matoaca, we were determined not to lose.”

A 5-11, 190-pound speedster who possesses excellent balance, strength and quickness as well, Wilson says he has improved his vision since last season. But he also gives credit to the offensive line’s improvement for his success over the past two weeks.
