Virginia
Tech announced on Thursday afternoon that wide receiver Ike Whitaker has been
indefinitely suspended for violating team rules. As is customary, Frank Beamer
said there would be no further comment on Whitaker or his situation.

Whitaker, a r-junior wide receiver, caught three passes in the East Carolina
game, but has seen his playing time decrease since then. At one time, he was a
popular choice amongst Virginia Tech fans to start at quarterback. He eventually
moved to wide receiver, where he had a chance to make a significant contribution
this year.

With Whitaker’s suspension, the Hokies have now lost their top seven
receivers off the 2007 team. Eddie Royal, Josh Morgan, Justin Harper and Josh
Hyman moved on, Brandon Dillard rupture his Achilles and Zach Luckett was
indefinitely suspended.
