Fork Union Military Academy postgraduate football coach John Shuman boasts one of the top 2010 class prospects in the state of Virginia – it is his son, Mark, who actually plays for the prep program under head coach Mickey Sullivan. The 6-7, 270-pound junior has already enjoyed quite a bit of success this month, both on the field and on the recruiting trail.

“He is playing pretty good,” said Coach Shuman. “He has seven offers. Virginia Tech, of course, was one of the first to offer. Tennessee offered him. Duke, North Carolina and Rutgers offered him. Virginia has offered him. Georgia offered him. He had good camps at Tennessee and Georgia this past summer, so they decided to offer.”

Mark’s brother, Ryan, a red-shirt senior, is the starting center for Virginia Tech’s football squad. As for Mark, the Hokies currently have the edge but an SEC program is right up there as well.

“They are in the lead,” said Coach Shuman, who was referring to Virginia Tech. “We went down there when they played Georgia Tech and they had him and other recruits go out and stand next to Coach Beamer out on the field. He liked that. All of the top prospects were at midfield. I don’t think he is ready to say yes, but he has been thinking Tech since the 7th grade.
