Former Hylton Standout Keeping Busy

Expecting to arrive in Blacksburg on July 1st, former Hylton (Woodbridge, VA) star tight end Eric Martin admits he was “pretty upset” to learn that he would have to wait until January of 2009 to enroll at Virginia Tech. The 6-3, 240-pound prospect has gotten over the initial disappointment and has been creative in the way he is using his time.

Martin scored the necessary level on the SAT, but received the test one day too late to gain admission to Virginia Tech on time.

“Right now, I’m actually coaching up at Hylton. I’ve been coaching and sticking to the workout plan the Virginia Tech coaches gave me,” said Martin, who will also take one math class at Northern Virginia Community College beginning next week.

One day this summer, Martin, who would like to get into coaching once his playing career is over, was working out when he was asked if he would be interested in being the Hylton junior varsity squad’s offensive coordinator. He accepted and the experience has been fun, but it is also something Martin feels will be beneficial.
