The first AP Poll was released on Friday, and the Hokies are one of three ACC teams ranked in the Top 25 by the sports writers. They are ranked #17 in the AP Poll, to go along with their #15 ranking in the Coaches’ Poll.
Clemson and Wake Forest also join the Hokies in the preseason rankings. Clemson is at #9 and Wake comes in at #23, exactly where both teams were ranked by the coaches. Florida State, Boston College, North Carolina and Virginia also received votes in the AP Poll.
The Georgia Bulldogs, behind quarterback Matthew Stafford and tailback Knowshon Moreno, are ranked #1 in both polls. Ohio State, USC, Oklahoma and Florida round out the Top 5 in the AP Poll.
Virginia Tech kicks off the season on Saturday, August 30 against East Carolina. College football begins on Thursday, August 28, with the biggest game of the night being NC State at South Carolina.
