Tech Off to Big Start to 2010 Class

With only one verbal commitment in the fold for the 2009 class prior to Saturday’s camp, certainly a major focus of the camp was scoring 2009 class commitments. The Tech staff certainly must have been pleased, though, when one of the top in-state rising juniors decided to make a verbal commitment.

6-6, 290-pound King William (King William, VA) defensive tackle Nick Acree had not planned on committing to Tech the summer before his junior year, but he couldn’t resist after yesterday’s experience.

“I had decided that, no matter what, I was not going to commit because there were a lot of camps I was going to go to,” Acree said. “I wasn’t going to give into it, no matter what. I went in with that mindset. When I was shown around Virginia Tech and saw the campus and saw Coach Beamer’s office, I thought to myself that this was too nice not to commit. If I loved Tech like I loved it, why would I wait? That’s where I was at. I felt like God wanted me to go to Virginia Tech.”

Virginia Tech was the program the King William star grew up rooting for, making this decision all the more special.
