Powell Scores First Two Offers

6-3, 200-pound Great Bridge (Chesapeake, VA) athlete Carvin Powell has picked up two official offers, head coach Pete Gale reported yesterday. And more offers could be on the way soon, possibly as early as the end of the May Evaluation Period.

“Right now, he has offers from ECU and Army,” Gale said. “I imagine that he’ll have a few more offers here in about a few weeks.”

A handful of other Division 1A programs have expressed heavy interest in Powell, who totaled 510 yards and 38 receptions from the wide receiver position last season as a junior. Virginia Tech is one of the schools showing interest, but the Hokies have not yet pulled the trigger on an offer.

“Virginia Tech doesn’t have too many scholarships to give this year, so they are being real tight,” Gale said. “I guess it all depends on what their needs are. Coach Newsome said that Carvin is a very good prospect, but they just don’t know what is out there for him at this point. They are recruiting him. They want to see Carvin at their one-day camp, and that is one Carvin is planning on going to.”
