Mackey Addresses Qualification Status

One of Virginia Tech’s prized recruits in the 2008 recruiting class, Hargrave Military Academy defensive end prospect Leon Mackey , a true senior, will graduate from the Chatham (VA) school on May 31st. The biggest question facing the 6-6, 257-pound prospect these days is whether or not he will be able to enroll at Virginia Tech later this year, and this question was posed to him yesterday.

Assuming Mackey finishes out these next few weeks in solid fashion, and assuming he does well in a summer school core course he has to take back home in Delaware, he says he will qualify academically and be able to enroll at Tech this year.

“As far as qualifying goes, everything is straight,” Mackey said. “I’m already qualified. I am going to take the SAT this weekend, but I’ve already got the score I need to get in, so I am just taking it in case. Leaving here, I’ll be where I need to be on the test and with the GPA.”

Mackey transferred to Hargrave following his junior year at Newark High School (Delaware), and the experience has met or exceeded expectations.
