The Latest on Javanti Sparrow

Western Branch (Chesapeake, VA) cornerback/wide receiver Javanti Sparrow has three definite Division 1A scholarship offers on the table according to Bruins head coach Scott Johnson. A handful of others have stopped by Western Branch this Evaluation Period, so the 6-1, 185-pound prospect could enjoy some more recruiting success in the near future.

“UVa has offered. Virginia Tech has offered. Marshall has offered,” Johnson said. “Those are all concrete. Several other colleges like him… like Penn State and North Carolina. He is starting to get real attention from a lot of schools.”

North Carolina and Penn State are already on the visit schedule this summer. As far as the in-state Division 1A programs are concerned, Sparrow has already taken an unofficial to Virginia and is considering a trip to Virginia Tech this late spring or summer.

“He went up [to UVa] in the spring – it wasn’t the Spring Game, but it was one of the last Saturday’s in spring – and I had been up before and spoken with Coach Price,” Johnson said. “Coach Price had indicated to me before that they really wanted to see him come up and talk to him. He indicated that they would probably offer him if things went well. He had some good things to say afterwards, and I think he fit what they were looking for.
