Offer Profile: Brooke Point’s Lanford Collins

Lanford Collins certainly remembers receiving his first Division 1A scholarship offer, which came from Virginia Tech. The 6-4, 240-pound Brooke Point (Stafford, VA) defensive end/tight end has since added seven more official Division 1A offers with more possibly on the way during the Evaluation Period.

“I was so excited. I couldn’t believe it,” Collins recalled of receiving his first official scholarship offer. “I always dreamed of playing Division 1 football. My mom and everyone were stunned. I always wanted my little brother Reggie to look up to me and be able to say ‘that is my brother on TV.’ I wanted a scholarship so bad so I could just tell my father. He is in the Military and has been stationed in Irag and Georgia and he has only made it to three or four games throughout my high school career.

“Even though I’ve got all of these offers, I’m not going to feel complete until I sign and receive my letter of acceptance. After that, I’ll just build on the opportunity I have.”

Besides Virginia Tech, the standout junior has also been offered by Boston College, Maryland, North Carolina, N.C. State, Penn State, Virginia and West Virginia. He says Illinois and Tennessee are interested as well. Of those programs, Collins has taken visits to Maryland, Penn State, Virginia and West Virginia, and he hopes to visits all of the schools that have offered.
