All-State DL Enjoyed Tech’s Spring Game

Varina (VA) star defensive lineman DeAntre Rhodes made yet another trip to Blacksburg this past weekend, when he attended Tech’s Spring Game on Saturday. The 6-3, 265-pound junior, a VHSCA Group AAA second-team all-state selection on offense and defense this past season, has been to Tech numerous times and has enjoyed his experiences. And this was no different.

“I enjoyed it. I enjoyed it,” Rhodes said. “The team up there works hard. I met a couple of recruits who were there. I talked to the Hopkins brothers (Antoine, a Tech 2008 signee, and Derrick, a rising junior at Highland Springs), the defensive end from Hermitage (Duan Perez-Means) and Ju-Ju [Clayton]. I met up with some guys in the locker room. I just hung out with my former teammate [Davon Morgan] and just chilled.”

Saturday’s visit provided the Tech coaches another opportunity to talk to Rhodes, who seems to have developed a very good relationship with primary recruiter Jim Cavanaugh.

“I didn’t really talk to the coaches for that long. I talked to Coach Cav and spoke to Coach Beamer again. They were saying how they were doing and things like that,” said Rhodes. “I like Coach Cav’s style. He is just real straight up about everything. He’ll tell you how it is no matter what (laughs).”
