Taylor Expected to Play Saturday

Recent
news reports indicate that Tyrod Taylor’s injury is not as bad as originally
feared, and he will probably play in the Spring Game. Taylor returned to
practice early this week and has been moving well, and the VT coaches are
expected to let him see live action in Saturday’s 2 p.m. contest.

After Tuesday’s practice, Frank Beamer was quoted on Beamerball.com as saying
that he “fully expects” Taylor to play Saturday. In an
article in yesterday’s Daily Press
, Norm Wood reported that Taylor’s injury
was a mid-foot sprain in his left foot, and that healing had gone well.

If Taylor continues to heal and move well in Friday’s practice, he will play
Saturday. This will save Sean Glennon from having to quarterback both teams, as
Bryan Randall did in the 2002
Spring Game
.

Admission for the Spring Game is free, and kickoff is scheduled for 2:00.
Parking is first-come, first-served.

Tincher Sets ACC Victories Record

Angela Tincher is now the winningest softball pitcher in ACC history, with
110 career wins. Tincher struck out 17 batters in beating Liberty 7-2 in the
first game of a doubleheader yesterday. The Hokies also won the second game 9-1,
giving them 22 wins in their last 25 games. Tincher did not pitch the second
game.

Tincher now has 1,922 career strikeouts, and she is on a quest to become just
the third pitcher in NCAA history (since stat keeping started in 1982) to amass
2,000 career strikeouts. The Hokies have nine more regular-season games left,
including three doubleheaders, so Tincher should see action in at least six more
regular season games. The Hokies will then play in the ACC Championships, and an
NCAA bid is expected to ensue at the end of the season, as well.

A three-game home stand against North Carolina on April 26-27 looms as Tech’s
biggest remaining regular season matchup. The Tar Heels are currently 13-1 in
the ACC, a half game ahead of the 13-2 Hokies.
