Varina (VA) defensive tackle recruit DeAntre Rhodes took a trip to Blacksburg within the past few weeks. While it certainly was not his first experience at Virginia Tech, the visit was important for the 6-2 1/2, 280-pound junior. Rhodes discussed his recent experience as well as his decision making process.

“I made an unofficial visit the Friday before last,” Rhodes said. “It was me, my mom and my little brother. The main purpose of the visit was for my mom to see the campus. She liked it.

“I like Virginia Tech a lot. I like the school, the atmosphere and get along with the players. The coaching staff is real cool. I see how it is there. I could feel going there a little bit.”

Virginia Tech has had success recruiting Varina High School in the past, most recently with 2007 class signee Davon Morgan. It hopes to continue its success with Rhodes, and Morgan is doing his part to ensure that.
