Catching up with Tony Gregory

First Colonial (Virginia Beach, VA) running back Tony Gregory admits that his senior season was disappointing, but he remains confident as he looks toward his future at Virginia Tech. The 6-0, 192-pound senior, who ran the 40-yard dash in 4.38 seconds last spring, is hoping to make an impact for the Hokies as soon as possible.

“They are talking about me coming up there and maybe being able to play early, but I could also red-shirt,” Gregory said. “I’d rather play as a freshman if I can. I want to get on the field.”

After rushing for close to 1,000 yards his junior season, Gregory seemed primed for a breakout senior year. But the 2007 season never got on track, for Gregory or his teammates, as the team finished with a 3-7 record. Tech’s standout recruit would miss three games due to a concussion, although he did end up with 641 yards rushing and eight touchdowns.

This offseason, Gregory has run indoor track and has shown the speed that no doubt excites the Virginia Tech staff.
