Bassett’s Miller Holds ACC Offer

Bassett (VA) offensive lineman Andrew Miller has enjoyed an outstanding past few weeks, receiving his first Division 1A football scholarship offer and then winning the Group AA state championship in the 285-pound division in wrestling. Bassett varsity football head coach James Gilbert sees more success in the future for his talented junior.

“He actually has been offered by UVa,” Gilbert said. “Now that that is out there, I’m sure he’ll get more. He has a direct line in with Virginia Tech because that is where his brother wrestles. Andrew is a good wrestler, also. N.C. State and Wake Forest are also interested. He has been to Wake’s camp each of the past few summers. A lot of ACC schools are in the picture.”

The Miller family certainly boasts an athletic pedigree. Andrew’s oldest brother, John, played football at Duke. Older brother Tim is a sophomore on Virginia Tech’s wrestling team and sister Heather played basketball at Wake Forest. All three siblings went to college on athletic scholarship.

Miller could have his choice of sports to play on the next level, but for now Coach Gilbert feels football will ultimately win out.
