Clayton Discusses Visit, Possible Decision

A decision could come very soon from Hermitage (Richmond, VA) quarterback Joseph “Ju-Ju” Clayton, who made an official visit to Virginia Tech this past weekend. The 6-2, 210-pound standout senior is considering offers from Tech, William & Mary, and Youngstown State, but Virginia Tech is the only favorite he has made an official visit to.

“I had a good time,” Clayton said of the weekend experience in Blacksburg. “We ate a lot up there (laughs). I met all of the coaches. They seemed real cool. Tyrod [Taylor] was my host. He was fun. He seemed cool to chill with. I met a lot of the players and it seemed like I could fit in good there. I talked to [Alonzo] Tweedy and Davon [Morgan]. I talked to other recruits such as D.J. Coles. I remembered Ike (Isaiah Hamlette) from our scrimmage against Brooke Point. Everyone seemed like real good people, people I could get along with.”

Virginia Tech is recruiting Clayton as a grey-shirt, meaning he would sign next month but enroll in January of 2009. This past weekend, the staff tried to alleviate any concerns the Panthers star may have had about the situation.

“As of now, they still want me to be a grey-shirt,” Clayton said. “They want to get some distance between me and Tyrod. My main concern was missing too much time with college classes, but they said I could take up to six credits at a community college and transfer those.
