In his senior season, Westover (Fayetteville, N.C.) star Lorenzo Williams played linebacker and played very well, racking up 102 tackles, two blocked punts, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and one interception. The first-team all-conference selection will play cornerback at Virginia Tech, and he was able to gain valuable experience at the position at last week’s Shrine Bowl.

“As soon as I got out there, I got into it,” the 6-2, 200-pound Williams said of playing cornerback. “I adjusted to it pretty well. I was not as good at adjusting to the ball as I should be, but that is something I can work on. I feel real good about what I did. I always feel like I can work on stuff, but I’m really glad with how I progressed.”

The South Carolina squad defeated North Carolina 31-24 in Saturday’s Shrine Bowl. Williams finished with five tackles.
