Bennett Discusses Season, Recruitment

6-8 (almost 6-9), 290-pound West Potomac (Alexandria, VA) star offensive tackle Jimmy Bennett , a Washington Post first-team all-metro performer last season as a junior, is having a great time in his senior season. His team is off to a 5-0 start and he is playing well, thanks in large part to the chemistry his team has been able to build throughout this past off-season.

“I didn’t do a lot of camps. I just think working with my teammates made me better,” said Bennett, who plays offensive tackle and defensive end for West Potomac. He projects as an offensive tackle on the next level. “It gave all of us more sense of camaraderie. That makes playing easier. I trust them a lot. I always play better when I’m loose than when I’m stressed. I worked on a couple of things technique-wise this off-season, but I think mainly just working with my teammates helped me.”

Another thing that has certainly helped Bennett enjoy his senior season has been his handling of the recruiting process. Though he certainly thinks about it, recruiting is not something that has taken over as the top priority in his life.

“I try to keep it away from everything else, especially if I’m doing something,” Bennett said. “If I’m doing homework, I’m not going to pick up the phone. I kind of put it on the backburner like that. I’m still interested in it, but I’m not making it the most important thing right now. I still have my high school team to worry about.”
