Virginia Tech has landed its 13th in-state commitment – the 18th overall – for the 2008 recruiting class, and it comes from a prospect rated in TSL’s Preseason Top 10. Even better, the commitment is being recruited to play wide receiver, which is a key position of need for the Hokies.

Goochland (VA) star D.J. Coles , rated the #6 overall prospect in the state by TSL, is the latest prospect to commit to Tech.

“D.J. gave a verbal commitment to Tech earlier today,” Goochland head coach Joe Fowler told TechSideline.com. “He committed with the condition that there is a chance he may have to go to prep school. He has a chance to qualify and to enroll with the 2008 class, but he may have to go to prep school and enroll with the ’09 class.”

Coles, who chose Virginia Tech over offers from Clemson, Georgia and Virginia, among others, is a 6-3, 200-pound prospect. He plays running back for Goochland, but is likely to play wide receiver at Virginia Tech. He could also end up on the defensive side of the ball depending on his body’s development.
