Taylor Elevated to #2 Quarterback

True
freshman quarterback Tyrod Taylor has been elevated to #2 on the depth chart,
and Ike Whitaker has been moved to wide receiver full time, beginning with
yesterday’s practice. The next two weeks will be spent evaluating Taylor and
determining whether or not he needs to redshirt.

Taylor has been very impressive so far in practice, as well as the two
scrimmages. However, he has been working with the #3 offense against the #3
defense. When he moves up to the #2 offense, he’ll get a chance to work against
the #1 defense and the #2 defense.

Ike Whitaker hasn’t been throwing the ball well, and he was outperformed by
Sean Glennon, Cory Holt and Taylor in the most recent scrimmage. He has been
working at both wideout and quarterback so far, but he’ll concentrate on wide
receiver only for now. He is also working with the special teams.

TSL will have a fall practice update later this afternoon that covers the
quarterback position and other news in great depth.

Friday’s Scrimmage Open to the Public

After good results from opening the last two Saturday scrimmages to the
public, Frank Beamer has decided to do the same for this Friday’s scrimmage. The
scrimmage on Friday will be the most game-like scrimmage of the preseason. It
will feature four quarters of football.

It will be your last chance to see the Hokies before the season opener
against East Carolina on September 1. Gates 4 and 5 of Lane Stadium (located on
the West/press box side of the stadium) will be open beginning at 4pm.
Stretching will begin at 4:15, and the scrimmage will start at approximately
4:45.
